Ogooma Project

Uganda Education Sponsorship

C.P. Blakely School’s journey with the Ugandan village of Ogooma began in March, 2010 when a retired teacher from our school made contact with us.  Mr. Eric Everitt told us about an orphanage in Ogooma and how a local Sylvan Lake group were making efforts to make a change in the lives of the village orphans.  Our school immediately recognized that we could also help these orphans and joined T.O.U.C.H. Ministries in this worthwhile cause.

Our school has donated proceeds from popcorn sales and a Decadent Dessert Night.  Tiger Council, our student leadership committee, has also made a cash donation.  Currently, the 40 orphans now have a home, are fed, clothed and are able to attend school.

With the orphans needs well taken care of by sponsors, our school looked at where else we could make an impact with Ogooma.  Currently, there are many children who do not attend school because of the lack of supplies.  This has led us to our Uganda Education Sponsorship project.  Each classroom has been raising funds with a penny jar to support two village children.  A total of 30 students are being supported.  Our students will have correspondence with the Ugandan students which will provide them with a rich experience of global awareness.
